Valley Of The Turtle Shirt Men

Book 1 Synopsis

Former Texas Ranger Jesse Rivers is on his way to California to seek his fortune in the burgeoning gold rush when a chance meeting with siblings Betsy and Shea O’Brian puts him on course to find a completely different kind of treasure—a fabled hoard of Spanish gold said to be lost in a place called the Valley of the Turtle Shirt Men. Although Jesse is skeptical of the gold’s existence, he agrees to the mission, if only to protect his naïve new friends, who are clearly in way over their heads.

Having to cross into hostile Indian territory to reach the valley—and with a gang of outlaws waiting to ambush them if by some slim chance they manage to return home-- the quest will call upon every skill that Jesse gained as a Ranger and as an adopted captive raised by the Comanche. Even so, the price of the treasure may be nothing less than their lives.

Rise of River Horse

Book 2 Synopsis

The Rise of Riverhorse covers the life of Jesse Rivers from age eight to seventeen. Eight-year-old Jesse is already a horse thief. He slips into his neighbors’ pastures, catches their horses and joy rides. He is already a very good horseman. The death of his mother prompts his father to move to Texas. Before they reach their destination, Jesse is captured by the Comanche. The rest of the book follows his assimilation into the Comanche horse and warrior culture. Jesse is adopted by a renowned Comanche horseman and trader with two wives, one Comanche and one a captured white woman. The white woman teaches Jesse to read and write. As Jesse grows older, he kills his first Buffalo, goes on his first raiding party, steals his first horse, and makes his first kill in battle. Between horse racing and raiding he becomes a respected warrior at a very young age bringing fame to his village.
Be at Jesse’s side as he slips through a Pawnee village to steal a horse. Lie in wait to ambush an Apache enemy. Ride and run beside your horse for four long days to stay ahead of a vengeful enemy. Capture and torture white buffalo hunters caught slaughtering buffalo on Comanche lands. Then be captured by the Texas Rangers and stand trial for murder in a no-win situation.
There is love and laughter and pain and suffering, at a time when the Comanche ruled the plains and white settlers were just starting to flock to Texas. Experience the clash of cultures as seen and lived by a Comanche with blue eyes.
